Instructional Support
Introduction
Instructional Intervention Programs
To provide timely, personalized, grade level resources and supports in specific skills/concepts to fill gaps in learning, prevent low grades and increase grade-level proficiency. Interventions are ideally implemented during the students’ regularly scheduled class, as an integral part of differentiated first instruction. Schools may also offer dedicated intervention labs during Advisory period (if available), before or after school, on Saturdays, and during intersessions.
-
A-G Intervention and Support-created Just-in-Time ELA and math intervention resources are housed in Schoology groups. Teachers can identify resources based on need, and assign them for small groups and/or individual practice. Teachers will take the asynchronous Just-in-Time onboarding PD, and will be given access to the Schoology groups upon completion.
-
Imagine Edgenuity Single Standard Concept Recovery Lessons:
-
-
Blended resources in four content areas to provide additional personalized opportunities for reteaching, learning and practice.
-
The lessons provide instruction, practice and assessment from 1 to 5 hours depending on the complexity of the standard.
-
-
The A-G Intervention and Support team provides asynchronous PDs for our proficiency pathways programs. These self-paced 2-hour PDs provide orientation to the principles of timely instructional practices that support grade-level proficiency, and an overview of the materials that teachers can implement. For information, contact Sian Eddington, A-G Intervention Coordinator, [email protected]

Imagine Edgenuity PD Specialists are available in each Region. They provide workshops, coaching, and implementation support for teachers and school teams. Schedule training at www.imaginelearning.com/launifiedpd
Academic Course Extension (ACE) Programs
Students who have earned a final semester grade below a “C” should be given the opportunity to engage in additional time, practice and assignments to fill gaps in learning, demonstrate proficiency in key skills and concepts, and improve their grade to a C or better. ACE can take place immediately following the semester in which the low grade was posted. The teacher of record and counseling team will support students in ACE to engage in independent or guided learning, as a grade improvement can be activated on their transcript upon successful completion of course requirements. Giving students access to ACE is a priority for raising C or better rates, improving eligibility for 4-year college admissions, and increasing financial aid award options.

Credit Recovery Program
High school students who earned a final grade of F in a course required for graduation shall be given the opportunity to retake the course, allowing them to demonstrate proficiency, earn a passing grade, and receive numerical credit. Also, students with a final grade of D who need intensive support in the course can be programmed into credit recovery to complete their unfinished learning. Courses re-taken and passed for numerical credit will generate an additional grade in the student’s transcript, with the same course code as the initially failed course. The goal for any credit recovery opportunity is to support students to attain grade level proficiency in skills and standards, earn a final grade of C or better, and to graduate on time with their cohort.
- Enrollment in a regularly scheduled class during the instructional day provides a traditional approach for students to recover credits.
- During Summer Term, Winter, or Spring Break.
- Adult Education sites provide an evening option for the student to take the class.
- Independent Study offers students a flexible pace to recover credits by entering into a written contract with the teacher of record, their parent/guardian, and the school counselor. In-person and online support with a LAUSD credentialed teacher can be used for this pathway.
- RIG (Recovery + Intervention = Graduation) is for students to recover up to two courses at a neighboring continuation high school site while remaining enrolled at their high school.
- Local Design programs are developed by school/department team, utilizing District-approved textbooks and resources to create credit recovery programs that fit their student population needs. Local Design programs are vetted and approved by Regional leadership.
- A-G Intervention and Support-created PASS (Performance Assessment Student Support) is a flexible, modular program built on EGI principles. Semester programs in ELA grades 9A-12A and Algebra 1, Geometry A/B and Algebra 2 A/B are available in Schoology. PASS is a student-paced option that can take place in a school day intervention or Advisory period (if available as part of the master schedule) or beyond the instructional day. The PASS class is led by a LAUSD teacher credentialed in ELA or Math who has completed the onboarding PD outlined below. Completing the PD will allow teachers access to all program materials and a bank of teacher-facing instructional supports.
- Imagine Learning virtual courses provide a variety of A-G required subject areas for students to recover credits. Such courses will be led by a LAUSD credentialed teacher serving as mentor.
- Imagine Learning Blended Course licenses may be available to schools; contact the Regional office for information.
